Ways to Stop Snoring

Many people enjoy a drink after work with friends and colleagues. They find it a relaxing and enjoyable end to the day. It gives you a chance to unwind after a long day over a beer or glass of wine before going home. Unfortunately, that drink or two might be costing you more than you think, more than a few dollars. What it actually might be costing you is a good nights sleep.

Alcohol is one of the primary causes of snoring. As little as a drink or two can be enough for you to snore, which will result in you sleeping poorly and being tired the next day. The reason that drinking alcohol increases the likelihood of you snoring is that alcohol is a mild depressant which relaxes the body and mind. A couple of drinks will also help you to sleep and that combined with relaxed throat muscles often results in snoring. Some people only ever snore after drinking which shows what a significant cause of snoring it is. It is therefore natural to conclude from this that if you are looking for ways to stop snoring the cure is simply to stop drinking alcohol.

If you live alone you may not even be aware that you are snoring. You may just wake up tired in the mornings and not know why. It is often only when you are with someone and they mention your snoring that you will find out. You then need to determine if you only snore after drinking or if it occurs at other times. You can easily find this out with a little testing and once you are certain of the cause then you can be certain of the treatment. Of course if you don't have a partner the only way of knowing if you are snoring is if you wake yourself up during the night. This can occur if you are snoring very loudly and if you are not sleeping soundly. If you wake up suddenly and are not sure why, it may be because you were snoring. Naturally it will be difficult to know for sure that that is what is happening but most of us know whether we snore or not.

So what is the best way to stop snoring? Well, if you are sure that alcohol is the cause then the remedy is to stop drinking or at least consume less. Test yourself to see how many drinks you need to have before you will start to snore. For some people one glass will be enough, for others they might only snore when they have been drinking heavily. Also consider the type of alcohol you are drinking. Spirits are very high in alcohol so you might be better off drinking wine or if there is too much alcohol in wine for you then you might want to switch to beer. You may want to experiment to find out which is the best way for you to stop snoring or at least reduce your snoring.

If you don't want to give up your couple of drinks after work then a better remedy might be to eat more food. Drinking while having a meal can help you to absorb less alcohol which can therefore prevent you from snoring. This can be a simple solution which allows you to relax with your friends while still being able to get a good nights sleep.

The last possible cure for this problem is to still go out with your friends but to skip the alcohol altogether and choose a soft drink or water instead. It is up to you to find a balance between your social engagements and the quality of your sleep.
