When someone we live with snores, we tend to do everything we can to remedy the problem. This is both to help them overcome a serious problem as well as helping ourselves to sleep better. Discovering the cause of snoring is the first step to solving this problem. The way to go about this is to look at the most common causes of snoring. Snoring occurs in both men and women and is more likely to occur in people who are overweight, smoke, drink alcohol, are stressed or who eat heavy meals late in the evening. If any of these things are present in the snorer's life then they should attempt to change this first. The vast majority of cases of snoring will be cured by addressing these issues.

There are less common causes of snoring and one of these is diary products, especially milk. Milk contains elements which can produce mucous in certain people. The milk can make the throat slightly congested making it more difficult to breathe. It is this mucous which may be causing the snoring. This doesn't mean they need to give up dairy products altogether just avoid them in the evening before bed. Although it is believe that drinking a warm glass of milk before going to bed can help you to sleep, if they want to sleep without snoring then it will be best to avoid this remedy.

The only way to determine if milk is the cause of the snoring is to test it. The person should drink a large glass of milk before going to bed and see what happens. If they snore then they should completely avoid milk and dairy products the next day and look at the result. If they don't snore the following night then there is a good chance that dairy is the problem. Test this over a week or two to be sure that other factors are not involved and to be sure that it is the milk. Once you know for sure then the treatment for the snoring will be simple.
