Stress relief is addressed in different ways in different cultures. This difference has resulted in controversy in recent times as no one can agree on how to handle to problem. Some believe yoga is the answer while others prefer zen. In fact, both of these are excellent techniques for relieving stress. There are many types of yoga around and they generally involve stretching exercises which are designed to relax each part of the body. Emphasis is placed on breathing correctly and with continued effort can lead to a reduction in your stress levels. Zen has a much stronger focus on meditation. It is uses more of a philosophical approach to relaxation and stress relief and can have great effects if practiced regularly.

There are many other ways to relieve stress and anxiety and these include deep breathing exercises, regular physical exercise, bush walking, listening to music, playing games, cooking, and reading. There are many options so it is up to you to try different things until you find the technique which works for you. These methods can easily be incorporated into your everyday life and are either free or cost very little. They are therefore easy to try. The important thing is to find something which relaxes you and takes your mind off your problems. If you want to go further you could try hypnosis or acupuncture. These must only be conducted by a professional and are known to be successful solutions in many cases.

It is also advisable to contact your doctor if you are suffering from stress or severe anxiety. Your doctor will be able to suggest a treatment specifically designed for your situation and this may involve using prescribed medication. Most people will prefer to find a natural stress relief solution but if this isn't enough to help you may need more advanced treatment. The most important thing is not to leave stress untreated. Stress and anxiety can put you at risk of many health problems including stroke and heart disease.

If you are not sure where to start in your attempt to reduce your stress then we recommend the first thing to do is to talk to someone. This may be a friend, family member or your doctor. It doesn't really matter who it is as long as you feel comfortable talking with them. Try to be open and remember that many people are experiencing the same or similar kind of stress as you are. Talking to people is the first step in feeling better and after taking appropriate advice and treatments you should find yourself feeling calmer and more relaxed.
