Effects of Stress
Stress can lead to very serious problems including mental health, behavioural, and social problems. Serious cases can lead to incidents of violence, addiction or even suicide. The effects of stress should not be underestimated nor ignored. It is important to learn how to deal with stress to avoid these tragic outcomes. Unfortunately we are only just starting to realise how traumatic events can affect people and their loved ones. It is almost always necessary to seek outside professional help when mental health issues become a concern so don't hesitate to contact your doctor if you are worried about yourself or someone close to you.
There are many stress related mental health disorders, some of which are much more common than others. They are nothing to be ashamed of and can affect anyone at anytime. They can even be hereditary in some cases so if someone else in your family has been effected by a certain disorder then be sure to take extra care of yourself and seek help immediately if you think you may be suffering from the same condition.
Stress can be a factor in many illnesses such as manic depression, obsessive compulsive disorder as well as eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia. It may be that severe stress or anxiety triggers these problems which is why it is important to deal with stress before it becomes a serious problem.
If you are experiencing stress then firstly you need to determine what is causing the stress and then look at possible solutions. The cause of your stress may be obvious which may make it easier to treat but if you are unsure of the problem then you really need to speak to someone for advice and preferably for professional advice. Stress is a major part of all our lives and can lead to serious problems if left untreated. It is therefore important to learn to deal with stress from an early age. The more you know about yourself, the easier it will be to treat. For more information visit our resources page.
