Stop Smoking Cigarettes

Almost all smokers understand and accept that there are serious health consequences involved with smoking cigarettes. Cigarette smoking is a powerful addiction and the majority of smokers say they would like to stop smoking cigarettes. These people say that and yet continue to smoke because it is difficult to quit smoking for good. Stopping smoking requires dedication, willpower, and a good plan. One of the most difficult aspects of giving up cigarettes is finding the willpower to remain smoke free when around other smokers and in situations associated with smoking

A good plan of attack when you first stop smoking is to avoid social situations where other people are smoking. Eventually you will be tested by someone innocently offering you a cigarette. The best way to deal with this is to act like a non smoker by immediately saying, "no thank you, I don't smoke". You can use the same non smoker attitude when you are craving a cigarette. Why would you want a cigarette if you don't smoke? Although this may sound silly, it can work. This can be effective because a significant part of cigarette addiction is psychological. You may think of yourself as a smoker even long after you have quit. To stop smoking you need to break the habit of smoking and the habit of thinking you are a smoker. It is your attitude and mental tricks which will help you to stop smoking for good.

Small mental tricks like this are important in helping your willpower when trying to stop smoking. A smoking addiction is very difficult to break because, for the most part, smoking is socially acceptable and is not illegal. Cigarettes are everywhere and you can easily be tempted. As someone who is trying to stop smoking, it is important to think ahead about how you can deal with these daily temptations. As soon as you put out your last cigarette, consider yourself a non smoker. Every time you are tempted by a cigarette say to yourself or out load, "no thanks, I don't smoke". This attitude can greatly improve you chances to successfully stop smoking cigarettes.
