Quit Smoking Cold Turkey
It is a well known fact that nicotine is a highly addictive drug. It doesn't take long to become addicted and, as any smoker will tell you, it's a difficult addiction to break. For this reason alone it is difficult to quit smoking but there are other psychological factors which make it difficult also. For instance, smoking cigarettes is generally socially acceptable and it is perfectly legal. It is common to see people smoking and cigarettes are easy to buy. Therefore, to quit smoking you must overcome the temptation of seeing smoking everywhere and being able to buy cigarettes it at will. This is why very strong willpower is required to quit, especially if you want to quit cold turkey.
It is a difficult task to quit smoking cold turkey and one of the reasons for that is that many smokers need multiple attempts to quit before they quit for good. This is partially to do with self confidence because if you try to stop and find it difficult and give up then you have failed. Even though quitting is difficult for most people and most don't succeed the first time, you still end up thinking you are a failure. This makes it even more difficult to quit the next time you try. You have to learn to accept that to giving up cold turkey is difficult and to have a lapse is not uncommon and is nothing to be ashamed of. It is not a failure but a temporary setback. If you have a lapse just try again; eventually you will quit smoking for good.
Although a lapse in your attempt to quit is normal, you need to do everything you can to avoid this situation. If you have the attitude than the occasional lapse is ok then you might end up never quitting completely. This is not what you want so if you do have a lapse try to understand why the lapse occurred and do your best to avoid the problem in the future. An attempt to quit smoking is a long term process, you won't succeed overnight. Stick to it, start thinking like a non smoker, and your chances of success will be much higher.
