Most people tend to gain weight slowly without realising it. It may have come from overindulging over the holiday period or from cooking less at home and eating out more. These periods of overeating lead to the accumulation of a couple of pounds here and there which, if you don't do anything about it, build up over time. Also, as people get older they tend to exercise less and yet eat the same, if not more, food as when they were younger. The other benefit of jogging is that it's free! Assuming you already own a tracksuit and jogging shoes, you don't need to purchase anything to be on your way to reaching your weight loss goals. You don't need a gym membership or the boredom of jogging on a treadmill counting down the minutes. Try jogging in a park or by the beach, choose a different location each time and you'll never get bored.

A major problem people need to overcome when looking to lose weight is how to incorporate exercise into their daily life - how to make exercise a routine activity, like brushing your teeth. Jogging can be the solution to this problem as it is a very flexible activity. You don't have to worry about getting to the gym; you can exercise whenever you want. You can get up early and go for a morning jog or go for a jog in your lunch hour, whatever is convenient for you. If you prefer you can buy an inexpensive second hand treadmill and jog in the privacy of your own home, perhaps while watching TV or listening to music.

Jogging is an excellent way to lose ten pounds and to increase your fitness but be aware that it's not for everyone. Jogging, especially on pavement, can be hard on your body. It places stress on your joints and some people may experience pain or discomfort in their knees or feet. However, the fact it places such strain on your body is exactly why it is such a good workout. Jogging is hard work! As mentioned before, if you're not very fit, start out walking and work up to a slow then a more intense jog. Another good option if you are concerned about the stress jogging places on your body is an elliptical trainer. You get the benefit of a hard workout like jogging without the same level of stress on your joints. Of course, an elliptical trainer machine is not free and you can't use it anywhere but the choice is yours.

Keeping in mind the benefits and risks of jogging, most people will find it an excellent way to lose a few pounds or more. It is also great for maintaining your weight once you have achieved your goal weight. Jogging really is a simple and easy way to lose 10 pounds and it will help your heart at the same time.
