Lose 10 Pounds by Exercising
Most of us are looking to lose weight at some time or another, either to look and feel healthier or just for a boost to our self confidence. The problem is how to lose weight easily, without making significant lifestyle changes. For many people, exercise is a simple weight loss solution. You may not like exercise but it is important for a long and healthy life and, even if you don't change your diet, can result in weight loss over the long term.
The first step in a weight loss attempt is to set a goal. An attainable goal for most people is to lose 10 pounds. There is no point in setting a goal to lose more weight than that as you will probably end up getting frustrated, lose motivation, and give up. A goal to lose 5 or 10 pounds is achievable for most people.
The second step in your weight loss program is to look at your current lifestyle. Do you work sitting in front of a computer all day long? Do you drive everywhere? Do you watch a lot of TV? In short, are you getting enough exercise? Most people don't exercise anywhere near as much as they should. The only benefit of this is that if you start exercising now, you should quickly start to see some results in your weight loss attempt.
People are often put off by the thought of losing weight by exercising as they think this means they'll have to go to the gym 5 or 6 times a week doing aerobics or running on a treadmill. Although this would certainly be of benefit, it is not the only way to incorporate exercise into your daily life. There are many other ways to exercise without it feeling like a chore.
If you lead an inactive life, driving to your office job, driving home, and then sitting in front of the TV because you are tired, then you probably think it is too difficult to find the time to exercise. An easy way to incorporate some exercise into your routine is to buy a treadmill, stationary bike or an elliptical trainer and exercise in your lounge room. You can exercise while watching TV, listening to music or even while reading. This way you still get do whatever relaxing activity you like to do in the evenings but you are exercising at the same time.
Another good option is to try to fit in some exercise during your lunch break at work. Most people have a one hour lunch break and end up staying inside and eating at their desk. Why not use that time to go for a walk? A 45 minute walk, 5 times a week will easily result in a loss of at least a few pounds, although it will happen slowly. You can lose weight quicker by adding some activities to your weekend such as hiking, swimming at the beach or roller blading. The point is to try to find activities which you enjoy as well as keeping you active. This way it won't feel like work, it'll just become a natural part of your leisure time. You'll also find that after you've been exercising for a while, you'll have more energy after work and you'll want to do more exercise. You never know, that goal of losing 10 pounds could end up being twice that.
