Healthy Eating Can Cure Insomnia
Not being able to fall asleep is a problem most people have experienced at some point in time. You toss and turn as you watch the minutes slowly tick away. Just as you get to sleep your alarm goes off and you have to get up and face the day tired.
There are many factors which contribute to or cause insomnia. One of those factors is your dietary habits. What you eat during the day could be the reason for your insomnia. When you eat certain foods, your body treats them differently and this could be stopping you from getting to sleep.
Changing your diet is one of the easiest and healthiest ways to cure insomnia. Choosing foods which relax you and make you want to sleep is the solution. No pills are involved, it's healthy, and it's cheap.
There are certain foods which work naturally with your body to promote sleep. If you find it difficult to get to sleep at night, the first thing to consider is what you are eating and how you can adjust your diet to incorporate those foods. It may be obvious but eating more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains will not only make you healthier but may cure your insomnia. Some foods to consider adding to your diet include:
Lemons. All fruit is good for you but lemons appear to be the best for treating insomnia.
Whole grains. Carbohydrates such as bread, muffins, and bagels seem to have a positive effect when you are having trouble sleeping.
Milk. You may think it's an old wives tale that a glass of warm milk will help you fall asleep but it is actually true. Certain chemicals found in mild can help you sleep.
Of course there are also foods and drinks you should avoid. Anything with caffeine in it for starters. Coffee, tea, soft drinks, and chocolate could have serious effects on your ability to sleep. Try to avoid these after lunch.
Everyone is different and what works for someone may not work for another. Try for yourself to see what works. If eating some strawberries before bed makes you sleepy then eat that. However, you might find that other fruits, such as apples, keep you awake. Try different things to find the reason for your insomnia.
A lot of this is trial and error so to keep track of what works and what doesn't, try to keep a food and sleep diary. Write down everything you eat during the day and at what time. Record the time you went to bed and how quickly you managed to get to sleep as well as the quality of your sleep. After a week or two you should start to see a pattern. Some nights you will experience insomnia and others you won't.
Use this research to plan your meals and snacks, taking note of what foods to avoid and which to include in your diet. This is a simple way to help cure insomnia for many people.
