Fresh Air is a Natural Cure For Insomnia
If you live in a climate where there are four distinct seasons, you might find that you suffer from insomnia at certain times of the year. Evidence shows that people often find it more difficult to fall asleep during late autumn and in winter. This can be attributed to shorter daylight hours during this time or perhaps slight depression caused by less time spent outside in natural light.
The cause of insomnia in this instance might be the change in weather and the solution can be as simple as opening a window. Fresh air seems to help many people fall asleep fast. This is less of a problem during the summer months as we are more likely to leave the windows open during this time. The gentle flow of fresh air into the bedroom can help you feel calm which may help you to fall asleep.
The solution to this problem is more challenging in the winter months as we are reluctant to leave the window open, especially in colder climates where it often snows. Most people don't even contemplate opening the windows during this time, certainly not during the night. You might then find yourself tossing and turning throughout the night, then waking up in the morning having had very little sleep. When we leave the windows closed for any length of time, such as the case often is in winter, the air doesn't circulate and it becomes stale. You end up breathing in this air at night when you are trying to sleep and this is often enough to cause insomnia.
There are several ways to overcome this problem and keep the air fresh in your home. A number of possibilities include:
Use an air purifier. These are available at many online shops as well as electrical retail shops and department stores. These are often portable which allows you to purify the air in your bedroom at night and then move it to another room during the day.
Install a ceiling fan. Ceiling fans are designed to help cool a room during summer but also to help with the circulation of air. These are readily available and are generally installed by an electrician at little cost.
If you are lucky enough to live in a fairly mild climate where the temperatures don't drop too low, you could try keeping your window open a night, all year round. The constant flow of fresh air will help treat insomnia and lead to better sleep.
