Staying in Bed Can Cause Insomnia

Most people suffer from insomnia at some point in their lives. They feel tired so decide to go to bed only to find that they can't sleep. They end up laying there for hours without having had even a minute of sleep. It might seem ridiculous to suggest that the cause of your insomnia is that you are in bed but that could very well be the case. Insomnia can become worse if you can't sleep but continue to stay in bed. Insomnia is a common problem and although there are many medical treatments, a natural treatment might be as simple as getting out of bed.

If you aren't getting enough sleep you may find it more difficult to deal with stress, you may become short tempered and you may feel unhappy. If you are feeling this way, you might think you should go to bed early and catch up on some lost sleep. You might especially want to go to bed early if you have to get up early the next day or if you have something important to do like beginning a new job or starting school. The problem with this is that if you are not tired, going to bed is not going to change that. You won't go to sleep just because your head has hit the pillow. If you're body is not ready for sleep then you won't be able to sleep. If you continue to lay there you'll just become frustrated and that will make you sleep problems even worse.

If you have gone to bed and are unable to fall asleep within 30 minutes then you should get out of bed and do something else. You may think that there is no point in getting up again but you might find that this is the perfect insomnia remedy. If you do decide to get up then here are a few ideas which can help you relax enough to enable you to go to sleep:

Listen to music. Some people find music very relaxing and listening to something in a darkened room may be enough to prepare you for sleep.

Watch television. Be very careful with this option because if you watch something too stimulating it may have the opposite effect and you won't feel tired at all. Try not to watch the news, a thriller movie or anything exciting.

Read. It's important to choose your reading material carefully. Don't read anything too engaging. You might find just a couple of pages of a weekly magazine enough for you to drift off to sleep.

Getting out of bed when you can't sleep doesn't mean that you won't be able to go to sleep that night. It doesn't mean that insomnia has won the sleep battle. It just means your mind and body aren't quite ready for sleep yet and you need to do something relaxing to get in the right frame of mind. This natural remedy might just be the trick to get you to fall asleep fast.
