Baby Sleep

You may feel that other parents are lucky in that their baby sleeps well throughout the night but it probably has less to do with luck that you might imagine. While some aspects of your baby's sleeping habits may be out of your control, there are many baby sleep tips you can implement to promote better sleep habits for you baby. One important tip which can help your baby to sleep is to make sure she is comfortable when she goes to sleep. If you create a calm environment where your child is comfortable then she is more likely to go to sleep quickly. The easiest way to make your baby comfortable is to make sure she is fed, bathed, and in clean clothes. She then won't need anything and should be ready to sleep.

You should also make sure your baby is sleeping in a clean, dust free environment which is neither too hot nor too cold. It is important to keep your baby's room dust free and blankets and soft toys should be washed regularly and kept to a minimum. Pay attention to your baby's breathing when putting her to sleep to be sure her airways are clear. If you live in a particularly dusty area, near a busy road for example, then you may want to buy an air filter. An air filter is designed to remove dust particles and allergens from the air but it can also provide a soothing humming noise which may help your baby to sleep better.

Another important aspect of making your baby comfortable is in your baby's clothes. Different babies like to wear different things so you may need to try different outfits and watch your baby's sleep habits closely. Things which you find comfortable may not be comfortable for a new born baby. Avoid both very tight and very loose fitting clothes, something which is a regular fit should be best, but as always, experiment to find out what works best.

Obviously a new born baby can't tell you what they are feeling so you need to pay close attention to their behaviour and reactions to determine if they are comfortable or not. You might even find that something which doesn't look comfortable works better than something which you think looks perfect. If you are even the slightest bit concerned about your baby's breathing or how hot she is getting at night then we recommend you visit the SIDS website for important information about your baby's health.
